Welcome to Terrington Hall School. We are an independent coeducational Prep School set in an idyllic location in the heart of the Howardian Hills, just north of York.
Primarily a day school with the option of flexible and weekly boarding, Terrington Hall provides an excellent all-round education for boys and girls aged 3-13. We blend forward-thinking learning with a traditional prep school ethos. Our emphasis is on developing happy, well-mannered individuals with the self-belief and resilience to pursue their talents and interests, wherever they may lie.
The high level of individual care and attention extended to every child is supported by small class sizes, an excellent staff/pupil ratio, specialist teaching staff and strong pastoral care. Terrington Hall provides a nurturing yet purposeful environment, in which children develop a lifelong love of learning which they carry with them throughout their school days and beyond.
I hope our website will provide a glimpse into Terrington Hall’s rich and diverse school life, but there is so much more to us than meets the eye. There are opportunities for everyone in sport, music, art and drama within and outside the curriculum as well as an extensive enrichment and evening activities’ programme.
Hidden from the road, behind the swimming pool, lie 9 acres of grounds, which is where our games lessons and matches are held, either on the astro-turf, grass pitches, or courts. It’s also a wonderful space for outdoor learning and adventures. By growing up in a safe and caring community to the age of thirteen, children challenge themselves without fear of failure and mature at their own pace, with Year 8 as their role models.
Untied to any senior school, one of the strengths of Terrington Hall is the breadth and quality of schools to which we send pupils both locally and nationally, day and boarding. Each senior school is chosen in consultation with the parents and with the best interests of the child in mind and we prepare pupils for entry through scholarships and Common Entrance examinations.
Last summer, our 19 leavers, nine of whom won scholarships and an award for academia, music, art, sport and all-round achievement, moved on to 11 different schools. We fully prepare our pupils academically, socially and morally, not only for the next step in their academic career, but to open doors for the future. You can find out more about our pupils’ onward destinations here and read about the adventures and achievements of Old Terringtonians on our Old Terringtonian News page.
I am intensely proud to call myself Headmaster of Terrington Hall and I do hope you will visit us to experience first-hand what makes the school such as special place.
