About the school
Stonar School is a co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 2 to 18 years. lt was founded in 1895 in Kent and moved to its current location during the Second World War. The schoolis administered by a board of directors, supported by a local advisory governing body. lt comprisestwo sections: the preparatory school, for pupils aged 2 to 11 years; and the senior school, for pupilsaged 11 to 19 years. There are 3 boarding houses on site. Since the last inspection there have beenimprovements to the boys'and girls boarding accommodation and some teaching facilities. Theequestrian centre has been redeveloped.

What the school seeks to do
The school aims to prepare each pupil to live successfully in a globalised world by furnishing them with the skills and attitudes to flourish academically and personally. lt seeks to provide an inspirational learning-centred environment where each student is encouraged to understand how to learn and to achieve the highest possible results.

About the pupils
Pupils come from a range of professional and farming backgrounds, mainly from White British families living in the local area. Boarding pupils come from within the United Kingdom, Europe andthe Far East. Nationally standardised test data provided by the school indicate that the ability ofsenior pupils is broadly average, while that of sixth form pupils is below average. The school hasidentified 68 pupils as having special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), including dyslexia, ASD and ADHD, all of whom receive additional specialist help. Also, 3 pupils have an education, health and care plan. English is an additional language (EAL) for 56 pupils, who receive additional support for their English. The curriculum is modified for pupils that the school have identified as themost able in its population.
